Pax

Moody and full of character, this our most artistic room! The whole thing centers around a massive painting that was created one night in the garden by guests, neighbors and my team and I. We spent the evening painting and laughing under the chandeliers. Now all of that good energy lives inside the canvas , and I would swear you can feel it in the room.

A guest once said, “The light doesn’t fill this room, it settles into it,” and that always felt right.

Pax combines deep charcoal walls, warm wood, layered textures, sculptural details, and soft lighting to create a space that feels both cozy and indulgent.

The spa-like bath features a double rainfall shower and a beautiful antique vanity mirror that I found buried beneath what felt like a hundred years of forgotten treasures in the attic.

Outside, a small covered deck filled with plants offers a quiet spot for great conversations at any time of the day. If you need help starting try Tether, the game I made for just that purpose. 🥰

Pax is for guests who love art, atmosphere, and spaces with a story to tell.

Traveling with friends? Peli is the closest room.

 Our Peaceful
Lion

From Josie,

Pax is the Northeastern most Lion on the Bridge of Lions which connects our historic downtown to the Island. Pax (Peace in Latin) and Peli (Happiness) were added to the bridge in 2015 to commemorate the city's 450th anniversary. Learn more about them here if you'd like.

Be aware of Athena in the corner with her endless empty offering! She can startle you if you catch her out of the corner of your eye. I love when people send me photos with her, especially if she is wearing their clothing. 🤣

This room began as an experiment. I wanted a dark room but was skeptical about whether I would like it, which was an expensive risk to take, but absolutely paid off! It turned out to be one of my very favorite spaces in the inn, I also lived in Pax for a long time while remodeling the other rooms so it holds more of me than the others.

Having done it as a community, the painting over the bed is so special to me and makes my chest feel full every time I look at it. It is a custom paint by numbers of a photo taken of Fiel (one of the lions on the Bridge of Lions) by a wonderful local photographer name Stacey RushingsLying on the fantastic mattress (which everyone asks about, but is unfortunately discontinued) beneath it, I can picture Hemingway in the corner, reading, or laughing softly over coffee.

You’ll feel this room in a different way.

"From the moment of our arrival, we could feel our minds absorbing the peace at Lions and Lanterns. We truly enjoyed the courtyard and our lovely room (Pax). Our four-night stay passed entirely too quick."
